Ozeri 8" Textured Green Earth Pan

We recently got a small 8" fry pan manufactured by Ozeri. As we've only had it for about a month I will admit we haven't had tons of time or experience using it. But so far so good. My husband does most of the cooking in our family--lucky me--and he is very happy with it.

I've noticed my teenagers using it to cook their eggs and I've asked them their thoughts on it. They all agree that it's a very nice pan and it cooks their eggs quickly and easily with little need of spray oils.

I'm a very visual hands on person and I always pay attention to how things look and feel. This pan is very solid and heavier than most fry pans. And from an artist's point of view I also like the green color!

Even though my husband does most of the cooking, I do most of the cleaning! I will say that this pan is very easy to clean. I read a review on it where someone said they don't wash it with soap. I do simply because as a working mom I might not get to the dirty dishes as quickly as I'd like, so the pan may sit in the sink for a few hours before I can get to it. Plus I didn't realize you shouldn't use soap to clean it. Oh well, perhaps I missed something from one of the inserts in the box when I first opened it. But, on a positive note, I probably did miss some of the reading materials because I was so impressed with how nicely made the pan is.

So in my opinion this pan is top rated and I would definitely recommend it. Perhaps given a few more months I will come back and give a follow up review if anything happens to change my mind.

I am honored and happy to see one of my wood burnings getting so much attention on Pinterest!

In actuality this snowman was made last year and sold. But I still have it listed on my website because I am willing to remake most my home decor designs. I've seen an interest in this piece on Pinterest throughout the year. However, because this is the season for winter decorating the interest in my pin has exploded. I get notifications from Pinterest every time one of my pins gets repined. This one is shared several times a day. I am now at the point where if I see one of these notifications I know it will be my snowman!

I am thrilled and happy at the popularity of my design and have remade a few for reorders. There are only a couple left in inventory so if you plan to buy one you might have to wait for me to make you another! They are going quickly!

Wood Burned Jewelry

A few years ago I began playing around with my wood burning tool and, through my 'playtime', I ended up designing some unique woodburned necklace pendants. While it took some time to get my style worked out, things began to come together for me last Christmas after my sister bought a few of these pendants from me to give to her co-workers as holiday gifts. I was a bit nervous to hear what everyone thought, but--THANKFULLY--they were very warmly received by her friends so I took this as a sign that I should forge ahead with more designs.

I made a few wood burned pendants and pins with a springtime theme and took them with me to a few art shows that I attended. Lots of positive feedback and compliments were shared by my customers so I was pleased by the response.

But lately I've been infatuated with the Chevron print pattern. I'm sure you've seen it in fashion, home decor and everywhere. If you aren't familiar here's a sample of the design that I found online:

My infatuation began when I had a customer order a name sign with this pattern. I blogged about designing this name sign on my Creative Name Signs Blog. In a nutshell, I was very nervous to create a design with this pattern. I never thought I'd be able to do it. But after some thought and planning it worked out. I was so happy with the outcome I began figuring out other items I could create with this pattern. Of course creating wood burned jewelry came to mind and I'm happy to report I've gotten a few pendant orders featuring this design! Yay! Here are a few photos:

So I'm happy that my infatuation with this design is paying off for me. And with the holiday shopping season just around the corner more sales are coming my way!

Trying Out the Art Festival Scene

Years ago I set up tables at several local arts and crafts shows. The first couple of shows I did very well. But the more often I paid for a space and set up a table the less interest people had in my work. I think the biggest drawback was that my artwork was all custom made--house portraits and personalized signs and plaques. I honestly don't believe the disinterest came from lack of talent or that it wasn't good enough. My impression is that when people go to craft shows they tend to buy on impulse and they also tend to buy things that are less expensive. Believe me, I know my artwork isn't cheap but I refuse to compromise that area of my business. I work too hard to short sell myself. I feel that the issue for me was a result of trying to sell my high priced art work in a small town where the economy has been depressed for years. It's hard to get people to spend their hard earned money. So my participation in art shows went on the back burner and I concentrated all my energy on selling my products online. Thankfully that focus paid off well for my little home business.

Lately, though, I've been getting the bug to sell at art festivals. We had a beautiful event in the neighboring town last weekend and I decided to take a shot at setting up a table with my artwork. The financial results were 'fair' when you talk about the revenue generated from that day. However, I had a sample house portrait displayed along with my custom made note cards and the people were overwhelmingly interested in that product. I only took a handful of house portrait brochures with me because I didn't think that item would generate much interest. But boy was I wrong! All but two of my brochures were taken along with many, many of my business cards. I'm looking forward with hope that more money will be generated from that festival down the road.

This as the only original painting that sold that day...I love this painting and I plan to paint another one very soon!

My 'Orange Rose painting' generated loads of interest but, as I said, I don't think people go to these shows planning to spend a lot of money and, of course, my original paintings cost much more.

Here's another painting that people went crazy over. I love it, too, and a tiny part of me is glad I still have ownership of it! Sometimes my paintings feel like a child to me and I don't want to let them go! I know! Crazy, right??

My sweet little paper flowers were much adored, but I didn't sell any. I had only just made them a few days before the event and I didn't get a chance to price them. My plan was to only use them as part of my display. But people really took to them. So I'm in the process of making more for the next show. (My husband would say I'm a bit neurotic over these flowers, but I just can't help myself! They are so fun to make!)

Here's a photo of a seaside themed step stool top that I wood burned and painted and had for sale. The step stool was my highest priced item and while it generated load and loads of interest I again believe the price was too high for an art festival in our area of the country.

And last, but certainly not least, my sweet watermelons! We had cut down a tree in our yard that I blogged about it recently. My husband unintentionally cut a few pieces of wood into a wedge shape. As soon as I picked them up to move to the huge wood pile I saw a piece of watermelon! So I went out one day after we got done cutting down the tree, grabbed these two wedges and went to my little imaginary world of Jane Loedding Art and...voila! They are so doggone cute! These two little wedges got more attention and love than almost any other item on display. I love them and ended up selling one of them. Yahoo!

So all in all, I'm glad I decided to take this leap. I will be going to another local art festival in a few weeks and I plan to take a large variety of art prints to that show since they can be sold for much less that my original paintings. I'll be sure to let you know how that one goes.

Wearable Art Jewelry and Pendants

October is always a slow month for me so the last week or so I've been spending time making wearable art pendants. Creating things that are outide of my normal work--i.e. the items I sell from Creative Name Signs and Images of Home--is fun for me because I can just let myself go and see what my imagination comes up with.

My art pendants are made of a variety of craft supplies most of which I have sitting around my art room. Some pendants are made of wood scraps that I have leftover from my name signs. Sometimes I use a small piece of wood or a small glass tile that I purchase at my local craft store. Using a heavy glue and sealant I incorporate a print of my artwork onto a pendant. Another way I make my art pendants is to use my wood burning tool where I burn a design into a small piece of wood. It really all depends on what mood I'm in on any particular day.

Then I made this one (not listed anywhere yet) which is somewhat personalized for me. The background of the pendant was taken from a print of my painting that I call "Colorful Spirals". The three tiny hearts represent each one of my children...

Since my art pendants are new and not anything I've sold as of yet I decided to try out this new website called Fiverr.com. I found it a few months ago and finally had the time last week to really delve into it and see what I can do. I listed a few of my pendants there as well as a few holiday ornaments that I painted. It is pretty fun and I've had some inquiries already.

Crystal Nail Files

I don't spend much time keeping my finger nails painted simply because I have paint all over my hands almost everyday. I'm sure I'd chip off or mess up any manicure in about 2 hours after I had one done.

I do however try to keep my toenails in good shape. I keep them painted, clipped and filed down to a nice length. I love to wear flip flops all summer long so having my toenails look nice is important to me. But as luck would have it I recently took a spill in our driveway and the toenail on my left big toe ripped back! UGH!! It was a mess and weeks later it still looks ugly. I've been traipsing around all summer with a band aid covering my ugly big toenail. What else could I do??

Well, the universe conspired and gave me what I needed. A friend of mine asked me to paint something for her. As her payment she got me a gift certificate for a pedicure. How perfect! I am so looking forward to getting my toes cleaned up once again.

The girl who does my pedicures is new to the salon scene having only just graduated from high school a year ago. But she does a great job none the less. I can't wait to sit down and have my feet taken care of again! I love pedicures!

I recall a few years ago I was out of town and patronized a salon that used crystal nail files. It was a gorgeous nail file adorned with Swarovski crystals. Talk about classy! It was a very high end spa and salon that I went to with my girlfriends when we turned "the big 40". We definitely spoiled ourselves that year!

I won't be able to spoil myself to another high class salon just yet, but someday I will! That's my goal! Work hard and then spoil myself to pieces!

Invitations for Birthdays

Right now I am enjoying a much needed family vacation at the beach in North Carolina. My family comes down here every year and because my kids are still in high school...well my oldest just graduated...we have to take our yearly vacations during the summer months. For some reason it always works out that our vacation week coincides with my youngest son's birthday. We've celebrated a number of his birthdays down here and sometimes I feel bad. I often think that we should pick a different week for vacation so we can throw him a nice party at home with a bunch of his friends. But other times I figure he has nothing to complain about. I'd love it if I could spend my birthdays at the ocean!

So every year I promise him that one of these summers he'll be able to have a big birthday bash at home. (I really hope I can keep that promise!)

This summer we waited until the last minute to make our vacation plans which gave me some time to at least consider a party at home for him. I came across a website that sold a large variety of party invitations and fortunately they offer beautiful invitations for birthdays. Being that I do a large volume of printing on my own home computer I could easily print some of my own. But heck...it seems so much more fun to buy them!

They offer so many different types of invitations at Invitation Box that I was a bit overwhelmed when making my decision. After my initial searching I narrowed it down and considered my son and how he likes to spend his time. He plays a variety of sports with baseball being his favorite so I searched for a sports theme invitation. He's turning 14 and since some of the styles were for much younger boys I decided to also look into the adult themed invitations, too. Luckily I found a nice variety that suited my son's tastes.

Meanwhile, as I continued on through the website I remembered that next year my husband will be celebrating his 50th birthday. Hmmmm...I definitely have to keep this website in mind! I've never had a big bash for him and I know I could find something that would work for him.

So even though we had to celebrate my son's big day down here at the beach and we didn't have a party at home I'll definitely keep InvitationBox.com invitations for birthdays in mind for my husband's up coming big day.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, "My husband and I are a couple of tight wads!" Some people will find that irritating, but many will have a bit of respect for us. We've managed for the past several years to survive on a tight budget and the only way we've been able to do that is through frugal living.

With that being said I want to share my thoughts on online coupons, where to look for them and how we've fared with them in the past.

Best Online Coupons has a huge variety of online coupons shared on their site and I'm confident you'll find some of your favorite stores listed there. I see Macy's, Old Navy, QVC, Dell, 6pm, Target, Best Buy and Dicks Sporting Goods just to rattle off a few. They offer newly released online coupons, expiring online coupons and a variety of hot online coupons. And what makes it so easy is you can see the online coupon code right there along with the expiration date. I added that site to my Favorites right after I discovered it!

And how about travel coupons? Over the past few years my husband and I saddened our children by announcing that we weren't able to take a family vacation because money was too tight. However, by mid summer we seemed to have a change of heart only because we were able to find some pretty good travel deals. In a brief scan of the page I see lots of 'last minute' deals which are right up my husbands alley! I saw one for Las Vegas and got a bit excited. We went there two times many years ago before our kids were born and we always talk about going back. Another list of Expedia coupons includes offers for destinations such as Galveston Island, Los Angeles and a few more deals for Las Vegas! Woo! I'm really going to have to take a look at these offers. My sister just got back from Vegas last week and hearing her talk about her trip and share her stories really has me ready to get back there.

Although I'm drooling over the thought of a trip to Vegas for just my husband and I, I have a feeling we'll be doing our regular family vacation this summer. I've shared with you that my oldest son is heading to college in the fall and the thought of taking a vacation with out my kids at this major life turning point doesn't seem likely. But who knows? Maybe we'll take two vacations! With all the deals I'm finding we might be able to swing it!

I've posted about No More Rack in the past but I am writing about this fun and fabulous website once again. Every day right before noon I get emails that feature their daily deals. I have to say that my heart skips a beat when I see those emails come through. I love to shop, but nomorerack.com makes my shopping experience even more enjoyable because of their rock bottom prices. I tend to be frugal and with three teenagers who constantly have their hands outstretched wanting more cash my pocket book ends up looking pretty thin. The low prices they offer grab my attention easily. And just recently they've begun hosting 'Evening Events' which include even more deals starting at 6:00 PM. So the shopping fun continues as the day wears on.

Previously I wrote about their 'insanity deals' which have included super hot items such as an iPod touch, a Playstation 3, an HDTV and more at incredibly low prices. They use the term 'insanity' for a reason. It's unbelievable how low their prices are. But with that being said you have to understand that those items are really hard to come by. Educational Toys For Kids

I have a 7 year old nephew who lives out of town. We see him a couple times each year when my brother comes back home to visit. They are trying to work things out so they can be home this coming holiday season. My fingers are crossed that they can get here.

Regardless of what happens, I have to get something for my nephew and I've been trying to come up with something special for him. He is an only child and pretty much has everything a kid could want! Plus, sadly, just before his 6th birthday his mother passed away very suddenly. It was a terrible tragedy. Because of that I think my brother over-indulges him with 'things' hoping to help ease his pain. But that's his way of coping and it's not for me to judge...definitely another story for another day.

Along with him being an only child he is also super-duper smart so I am always on the look out for educational toys for kids because of his high level of intelligence. He loves, loves, loves, Legos and puzzles. We went out to visit them a couple of years ago and as a parting gift he had created for each of us a little Lego car. I still have that little car sitting on my desk.

He also loves cars and trucks and trains, but I think he's getting to the age when he might be more interested in remote controlled vehicles. And last summer when they were visiting I noticed how he had fun playing with my son's electric guitar, so I'd say he has an interest in music, too. And I just remembered he's a fanatic about computer games.

Oh geez! Decisions! Decisions! I have no idea what I'm going to get him! I'm going to browse and search for as many educational toys for kids that I can find. Maybe I'll find something extra unique. My plan is to get him to realize that I'm the coolest aunt he has!

Yeah! Right! Tell that to my two sisters and we'll be in competition with each other!

I got the...

...new Kindle Fire and I love it!

I like to read at night before I fall asleep and ever since the first version of the Kindle came out I really wanted one. But they were pricey and I couldn't justify spending the money on it. So, like many, I waited it out.

Then last week while Black Friday shopping I broke down and bought the Kindle Fire. I'm still learning how to use it but so far I am really enjoying it. I bought my first book for .99 cents! I've been buying book for years...usually from Amazon. I'd buy the used books which were pretty inexpensive. I literally bought a couple that were only a a few cents but you still have to pay for shipping so in the end I was still spending  more than I will using the Kindle.

And my kids love it, too. They've downloaded a handful of apps and they check Facebook all the time. As a matter of fact two of my kids are playing a word game on it as we speak.

So if you're like me and thought about buying one for a while I say, "Go for it!"

Okay...I've been super busy the past few days working on getting holiday orders completed and ready for shipping and I'm tired! I'm going to get ready for bed then grab my Kindle Fire and go relax and read for awhile. I hope you're having a great week!

Poconos Family Resorts

For those of you who may not be familiar with Pennsylvania let me tell you that our state is rich in culture and filled with surprises. We have big cities, such as Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, but we also have a variety of quaint small towns tucked all over the state. We have beautiful mountain areas, lush forests, sandy beaches along Lake Erie as well as historic battlefields in Gettysburg.

But one place in PA that is well known to many is the Pocono Mountain area. Nestled in the northeastern corner of Pennsylvania the Pocono Mountains have always had a great reputation for skiing. And, as I recall, it was considered a beautiful and secluded spot for honeymooners. ;D

Meanwhile, as I spent the past several years of my life in my own little world on the opposite end of the state, the Pocono area grew--greatly. Much more so than I ever realized. A family friend spent most of her summer as a nurse at children's camp in the Pocono region. It was through her that I learned how this area has changed and grown. The Poconos area now offers a large variety of family attractions as well skiing. I was completely surprised at how much there is to do!

And if you've ever tossed the idea of a little family get-away to the Northeast then you must consider the Great Wolf Lodge as it is one of the leading Poconos family resorts.The Great Wolf has a fabulous water park which was designed with every age in mind...from very small children to teens to grandparents! My kids would love it!

Beyond the water park the Great Wolf also offers great dining options plus some great retail therapy--Shopping! (My favorite!) They also have a spa for adults and even a spa for kids. How cool is that?? My daughter would be in heaven! Then for the health conscious visitors they also have a fitness center. You can work off those extra calories that you take in at their fine restaurants.

Plus the entire Poconos area has a variety of other attractions. As I mentioned earlier they offer skiing, as well as snow boarding and snow tubing in the winter. Then in the warmer months you can take in the incredible natural beauty of eight different waterfalls in the area. You can go canoeing, kayaking, biking and horseback riding. And for the golf enthusiasts they also have gorgeous golf courses! There is also a wild animal park nearby which is fun for every age. Or if you love history, you can visit a living history farm. Plus they have a local theatre which presents some very popular shows. Goodness! There is so much to do and the options never end!

Okay, I need to close for now. But I have to say that sharing all of this information has seriously got me yearning for a vacation! I need to talk to my husband about planning a trip to one of the top Poconos family resorts this winter! We have a little time off after the holiday season so maybe...just maybe...we can plan a get-away!

Window "Pain"

Like Eminem sings,

"Maybe that's why they call it window pain..."

I have a fairly large picture window in my living room. Every morning as I sit and drink my coffee I look at my window curtains and think about how I need to replace them. But everyday as usual I get moving through my day and that priority gets put on the back burner.

This morning was no different, but since it was Sunday and we didn't have to rush out the door super early I had some time. I made it a priority to look online for some new curtains.

First of all we live on a pretty busy street so I need sheer panels because I don't like the feeling of people seeing clearly into our windows all day long. And on top of the sheer panels I need to get a nicer heavier set of window curtains--usually light blocking panels-- for the same reason. We live on a busy street and at night time with our living room lamps turned on it's very easy to see through the sheer panels.

So I know what I need to look for. Now I have to figure the colors. I have some pretty neutral earthy colors throughout my living room therefore I need to stick with that color scheme...sage green, brown, deep red, yellows, a touch of blue and hard wood floors. Okay...that's fine. I like those colors and I want to stick with them.

Now, do I want florals in the design of the curtains? I don't know...I think I'm sick of florals. Maybe I need to go with a more contemporary pattern? Or maybe I could find something that's not too contemporary but not too florally. Or how about something in a solid color but that has a particular look to the fabric...like a suede type of material? Or maybe a simple cotton duck fabric. Hey! Here's something that might be an idea--Bamboo panels! How cool is that?? But are they heavy? Would they be too heavy for the rod I have? Hmmm...they should be okay, but I'm not sure. Oh geez! Here we go!!

Maybe this is why I keep putting of getting new window curtains! The selection is huge and overwhelming! And some days, I'm not too good at making decisions.

Maybe I should stick to painting pictures of windows like the one I did a few years ago!

Maybe I need to calm down a bit! Good Lord! It's only window curtains, Jane!

This IS painful...and now I'm back to Eminem's words...

"Maybe that's why they call it window pain!"

Okay...I am really showing my true colors here. It's obvious I need to take some time and think about what I *really* want for my living room windows before I make any big decisions .

Meanwhile, I'll just sit back, sip my coffee and do some online 'window shopping'! (Pun intended!) And sometime soon I'll finally be ready to make some decisions!

Girls Pajamas from Aeropostal

   I'm spending a little bit of my free time this evening reving myself up for all the holiday shopping that has to be done soon. My daughter's birthday is right before Christmas so I not only have to do lots of holiday shopping for the entire family, but I also have to get birthday gifts for her at the same time.

   But thankfully she's a girl!! Which translates to...she is SUPER EASY to shop for!

   Not that she really *NEEDS* a thing...we just went school shopping a few weeks ago! But I will admit that her pajamas are looking pretty worn. I don't think I've gotten her any since last Christmas. All summer she only slept in t-shirts and shorts.

   Meanwhile, as I was doing some online shopping I happened upon these darling girls pajamas and I think the styles are right up her alley. They have colorful tanks, camis and t-shirts which are perfect for her. She is so unlike me and she wears tank tops in the winter! Me? I wear heavy fleece pajamas because I am always freezing cold.

   And the flannel pants or the fleece pants would be great to go with these tops. And I've taken a fancy to the holiday themed pants! How cute are they?!?! But knowing my daughter she'd probably prefer the plain colored pants. Usually if I like something it ends up that she doesn't. It's that teen attitude that comes into play when we shop. But then again, the little flannel dorm boxers might be more in line with her taste. Plus...as I said...she's never cold like me!

   Decisions! Decisions!

   Okay...I'm going to get going so I can focus and take more time to look over this large selection of girls pajamas and maybe even more of the other clothes on their site. I bought my son a couple pair of jeans from Aeropostal last year and he wears them all the time. And the best part...the price was great! Lots to think about!
